Synopsis/Details
A group of unaccompanied immigrant children are housed in a church among a suburb in Scottsdale, Arizona. The church is authorized and funded through a convoluted government program that requires their existence to be hidden. A local doctor is reluctantly brought into the program for providing medical care on site.
As the Doctor learns about their personal journeys, he develops an amazing bond with the children and their caretaker. Their bond allows them to trust the doctor for medical care and guidance in their newfound home without their families.
The Doctor's wife is the assistant to the Senator for the district that unknowingly houses the program. The district is a strong republican district that would adamantly fight to stop the program if it were discovered, hence the commitment to keep it 'nonexistent.'
The Doctor's wife is so caught up in pursuing the Senate seat as the next step in her career that her and the Doctor are beginning to grow apart. Their two children are the only reason they still see each other at the end of each night. However, the program's caretaker is unintentionally creating a reason for the Doctor to not make it home quickly after work. The Doctor struggles to keep his amative feelings for the caretaker subdued while attempting to keep his home life normal for his children.
He soon finds out that his wife is determined to do what it takes to keep their district red, especially striking out any measures that would be considered as soft on immigration rights.
Caring for the immigrant children reminds him of why he became a doctor in the first place while the political heat around his wife's actions against immigration puts a strain on the Doctor's ability to keep his role with the program hidden, forcing him to challenge his own integrity and sense of humanity.
