Synopsis/Details
ELIZA is an impoverished teenage single mother unjustly sentenced to transportation to Australia in 1833, and forced to leave behind her beloved infant son. She must navigate the harsh environment of the penal system, and to survive she deploys her wits, charm and courage amongst other innocents, misfits, and hardened criminals. As the cramped and leaky transport ship sets out on its long journey, laden with its cargo of 103 convict women, Eliza sets her eye on TOWSEY, the young and naive midshipman, and they both fall for each other. But they are betrayed and cruelly punished, and after a terrible storm, the ship founders on the beach at Boulogne-sur-Mer. They narrowly escape disaster but later, in hiding, Eliza must make the hardest decision of her life, with drastic consequences for herself and her lover.

The Writer: Steve Mallinson

After a long career in telecoms and the not-for-profit sector, I transitioned to screenwriting to tell an incredible true story I discovered. I wrote the entire first season of a period drama series, and have since had a contemporary feature optioned. Additionally, I’ve completed the pilot for another mini-series and trying my hand at shorts. Interested? Please get in touch! Go to bio
