Synopsis/Details
In the sun-drenched streets and shadowy alleys of Southern California, four lives and their stories unfold, each entwined with sorrow and the desperate search for self. Alice, a dreamer haunted by the stories she conjures, both real and imagined, seeks solace in the labyrinth of her own mind. Carolina clings to made-up personas in a sea of grief, struggling to reconcile loss with the promises of salvation. Kelsey has a burning need for justice with her every step, a march toward vengeance for the friend she can never forget. Charlie, a troubled musician, hides behind the chords of his guitar, pouring his pain into melodies that echo shades of a violent past. Their paths never truly cross, but they share a common thread- the ache of brokenness, the yearning for a new beginning, and the early foundation of a spirituality that has seemingly abandoned them. Each runs from who they used to be, seeking refuge in the promise of a brighter future, yet finding they take the ghosts of yesterday wherever they travel. As they run toward new love, college, life paths, and big dreams, their identities blur, and their masks slip, eventually revealing the raw vulnerability beneath. In their shared humanity, they find a fragile connection and a glimmer of hope amidst the wreckage of their fragile lives. "Blue" is a poignant ode to the human spirit, a testament to the resilience of those who dare to dream in the face of despair. Through loss and redemption, Alice, Carolina, Kelsey, and Charlie discover that true freedom lies not in running from the past, but in the vulnerability it takes to survive the human condition.

Bluecat Screenplay Coverage/ Reader #9683:

You tell four beautiful stories here. Each one has their own complex plot and conflict, keeping tensions high through each individual story and into the intersection of all of them. Sara/Alice’s storyline is a wonderful example of an unreliable narrator as is expressed through the eyes of someone young and traumatized. Her conflicting beliefs and thought processes, the perpetual switching between joy and terror, it all speaks to what she’s been through and who she is. Kelsey and Laura’s plotline is dark and devastating, going from joyful to horrifying in the short amount of time allotted to them. As we watch, we can feel the same building anxiety that the girls do, along with the dread that Kelsey endures seeing Laura disappear. Carolina’s story is another brilliant depiction of grief and how it can affect the mind and warp reality. She parallels Sara/Alice very well in that regard, watching her try to be different people to avoid what is going on with her. Charlie’s story rounds them all out quite nicely, yet another depiction of someone who grew up under the shadow of abuse, similar to Sara/Alice. His burns are heartbreaking, but the amount of support that he gets for his beautiful soul is incredibly inspiring and a perfect addition to his plot. When they all come together, it is in a way that makes sense; a series of chances that leads them all to one another. It does not come across as contrived, but instead very natural.

The motif of making up stories about people, as is touched upon by both Sara/Alice and Carolina, speaks to the entirety of your screenplay; the stories people tell, the stories people live, and those that other people make up for them based on a first glance. This is a very smart choice that elevates your screenplay entirely and makes everything really, truly pay off in the end. You weave these threads together so intricately that they form a brilliant tapestry by the time that we get to your finale, everything making sense alongside one another. Well done.
