Synopsis/Details
"The Apartment" follows the misadventures of the Poto family as they adjust to life in Boston's Little Italy after their mom's sudden departure from their father and San Francisco. For the youngest sister, whose keen eye for the absurd fuels her aspirations as a writer, the upheaval is both bewildering and hilarious. Mom - blissfully unaware of the chaos she's caused, immerses herself in the local scene, surrounded by a colorful entourage of gay friends and fellow Gloria Steinem enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the oldest sister sporadically appears, having joined the Hare Krishnas. She is often just out of jail and looking for redemption. The middle sister grapples with her misery, wondering why they had to leave a city they loved. All this as a family entity has been shattered and with its reinvention, there is always humor. As the family contends with mobsters, meddling neighbors, and sexual self-discovery with the help of convenient building fire escape, the obstacles of mom’s growth juxtaposed with the sisters' attempt at parenting themselves, brings hilarious new challenges and absurd situations. Yet, amidst the madness, moments of genuine connection and understanding emerge, reminding the Poto sisters that even amid the chaos, there's always room for laughter and love. "The Apartment" is a retro, single-camera comedy that blends the throwback wit of shows like Norman Lear's "One Day at a Time" with the quirky charm of family characteristics like "Everybody Loves Raymond," offering a fresh perspective on coming-of-age in a tumultuous time. Through its blend of humor and heart, the series explores the bonds that hold families together, even when life seems determined to tear them apart. And it's based on the writer's real life.
