Synopsis/Details
===================================================================== BREAKDOWN IS GOING INTO PRODUCTION IN PERTH, AUSTRALIA, IN MARCH 2023. ===================================================================== BREAKDOWN is a 'found footage' style short horror film. Shot predominantly from 2x dashboard-mounted cameras Camera #1 - facing into the car Camera #2 - facing ahead dash-cam style Camera #3 & 4 - handheld mobile Bobby receives a text from his ex-girlfriend, who has broken down in the middle of nowhere, asking for his help. Bobby starts in the early evening, but his journey takes him into the dark of night and some deeply eerie woods. It transpires during his journey as he practices what he will say to her that he has been less than a good boyfriend to Ashley. When he finds Ashley's stricken car, he jumps out to go to her, but she is nowhere to be seen. He looks around for Ashley, but he cannot see her. He calls out to her and wanders around. There is no sign of her. He tries to call her phone, but he has no signal and looks confused at his phone. Eventually, he puts the phone back in his pocket. He gets into Ashley's car to try her engine. While he is in her car; footage from within his car has his parking sensors being set off; they get more and more intense as something gets closer and closer to his car. Then they go off. Looking back outside his car to Ashley's car, the footage picks up a car door opening and shutting. This alerts Bobby. He leans out of Ashley's car and listens, but there are no other sounds. In leaning out, he spots blood on the ground. He switches his phone torch on and inadvertently begins filming. He follows the trail of blood around his ex-girlfriend's car to the boot; he opens it and finds & picks up a shovel before closing it again and continuing following the trail of blood. Finally, at the side of the road, there is a glimpse of him spotting something in the undergrowth. He pulls some weeds back to discover a man's bloodied hand. He jumps back and lands on his arse. Scrabbles back further. He's shocked now. Stumbling around, and tries to call Ashley's phone again, but there is no signal. He gets back into his car. Tries to call Ashley from the car hands free, but still no signal. He starts the car and turns around. Once a little way down the road, he calls again. This time the call connects. There is the sound of the phone calling through his speakers and, simultaneously, a ringing in the back seat. He slams on the brakes. There is a shriek, and the dashcam is knocked to the floor. From the cam's new obscure and blood-splattered angle, it's possible to see Bobby's legs twitching. Cut to close up of a phone on a bedside stand. The phone lights up, vibrates and beeps. A text message shows a location map followed by:- 'Jake, I’ve broken down in the middle of nowhere. I didn't know who else to turn to. Come and rescue me please!! It's cold. Very little signal. Ash x'

The Writer: Warren Slingsby

I've been writing since 2013 when I published my first novel, a heist thriller called To Catch A Storm which was inspired by a Jean-Luc Godard quote - "All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun". So with his starting point, I took a girl, gave her a gun, plus a bag of cash, the keys to a Lambo and sicked a nasty gang of oligarch's thugs on her. It felt like watching a movie as I wrote it, except I could make the plot go where I wanted it to go. The whole thing gave me the bug, and now I escape into the worlds I write most days. More recently, I've shifted focus to writing for the screen and written a feature-length horror film. Reboot is my love letter to the 80's 'video nasties' (as… Go to bio
