Synopsis/Details
An experiment involving psychic warriors and time/space manipulation leaves an emotionally disturbed soldier with the power to turn people's fears into terrifying reality. Now he's hellbent on revenge, focused on destroying those responsible for the experiments, and his torment. The only ones who can stop him are a local sheriff, a corporate executive and the brilliant female scientist who 'created' the soldier -- unless he and his psychic monsters find them first.
A modern retelling of "Frankenstein," "Dark Matter" unfolds as a series of unexplainable disasters and mysterious deaths of military
officials and scientists occur, all connected to a top secret project, "Aurora," that trained soldiers as psychic warriors, a project headed by the brilliant scientist , Maggie Drake, whose true interest is the manipulation of time and space through human consciousness.
Maggie's research is partially funded by a military contractor, overseen by a wealthy corporate executive, Richard Adams. Going through a divorce and a painful separation from his two young daughters, Richard also finds himself the target of death threats from an unknown source.
Traveling to Maggie's research center at a small college campus in Virginia to discover answers about Maggie's project, Richard finds himself involved in a military and government investigation into the mystifying deaths, deaths that seem to be based on personal fears each victim possessed.
Joined by a local sheriff also investigating the deaths, Richard and Maggie try to understand what happened to one soldier in particular, when a lab accident propelled his consciousness into a realm at the very edge of space and time, the soldier escaping from the lab and going into hiding.
What no one knows is that the soldier, Rodney James, has come back changed, able to manipulate matter, and now deeply disturbed and seeking revenge on those who turned him into a psychic monster.
As the deaths and natural disasters increase in severity, all events lead to a terrifying climax at the college lab, where Rodney unleashes his final horrifying creation, based on the primal fears of Richard's two, held-captive children, while Maggie races against time to stop Rodney and put the quantum genie back in the bottle.
