Brielle, as a result of the argument storms off to her room. Vahni then asks a servant for a drink and she goes to get it for him. However Kyarr is waiting for her and kills his servant with a blowpipe before jumping in through the window of the store room and pouring a poison into the wine, he surprises Vahni and hands him the drink. The two begin to converse before Vahni accidentally drops the wine and Kyarr kills him with a knife , he then goes back to the store room window and tells his men to recruit people to his cause and execute them if they do not join. Brielle finds her father dead and a brief fight ensues with Kyarr before she injures his eye, Pela, having managed to escape the men in the village manages to help Brielle escape her home and they leave the village by diving into the river that runs through it. The next morning Brielle wakes up with Pela gone, she searches for him and finds him at a nearby waterfall causing a small argument between them. Kyarr meanwhile sends some of his best man Soadas after Brielle and Pela. A chase between the two groups takes place over the next week or so with Pela finding a monkey friend and the two young protagonists discovering a logging camp, abandoned after a massive rainfall. Soadas and his men meanwhile have a disagreement and he gives the insubordinate man a minute head-start after he insulted Soadas' tracking skills. The other 2 men in Soadas party all fan out to search for him with one being attacked and killed by a jaguar, Soadas and the remaining man Otlas then find the one who insulted Soadas. A brief fight ensues and he gets thrown off a cliff, Soadas and Otlas continue their search for Brielle and Pela. Meanwhile back at the Lovac camp, Kyarr has renamed the camp the Tigans and imprisoned a protester called Kwan without executing him to try and show that he is a compassionate chief. Brielle and Pela are dehydrated, tired and hungry. They suddenly hear a noise in the jungle and follow it before discovering a previously unknown tribe, they are taken in by the tribe before meeting the chief of the Roje who turns out to be a woman called Kabita, she says the tribe will help them as she herself had a similar event happen in her childhood. The Roje form a war party along with Brielle, Pela, Kabita and Kuka their head hunter. This war party leaves and heads back towards Brielles' village. One night when having camped out Soadas and Otlas find the camp, they infiltrate it and Otlas goes to find Pela who has walked to go and relieve himself in the forest whilst Soadas goes to attack Brielle, a fight ensues and Soadas is killed. The next day the tribe discover the waterfall at which Brielle and Pela stayed near to on their first night on the run. However as the war party begin to bathe an earth tremor hits causing some rocks to fall into the pool, the men and their leaders all decide it's better to move on. They camp out on a hill nearby to the new Tigan village and prepare a plan of attack. The next evening the war party attacks the Tigan by climbing up the steep banks carved out in the village by the river, Brielle and Pela find Kwan in the prison and release him to get information about Kyarr and his new guards. Kwan then asks if they can take him with them to face Kyarr to which they agree. As The trio climb towards the chiefs hut more earth tremors begin and Kuka is killed after diving in front of a spear to protect Kabita. The trio confront Kyarr and Brielle is left to face him alone after the other two are forced to fight Insi (Kyarrs' strongest warrior) on the balcony, Kyarr and Insi are killed as the earthquakes reach their peak and the trio escape down the hill into the village where they meet up with the war party and take shelter in a clearing while the earth quakes and the village burns. They decide to leave the village to rebuild it elsewhere, they take survivors with them and have a funeral pyre for Kuka. (a few months later) Brielle and Pela have just gotten married and it's revealed their new camp is at the site of the waterfall near to where they slept on that first night. Torches are lit through their village in a procession before it reaches the final one in-front of the newlyweds who light it and as the embers rise up it fades to black.

Reader comment from the Academy Nicholl fellowships.

"The story is based on a very simple premise that starts the movie’s forward motion. The story itself has a simple plot with a logical starting place, a middle that builds suspense and a predictable end. This script took us on a journey through unfamiliar terrain in the rainforest."

"The script has a distinctive point of view. The premise and story are routine for the genre, but the characters were new to me."

"This script is built around simple characters. The antagonists – Kyarr and his minions – appear to be two dimensional, with no redeeming features even in their own minds."

"The two heroes, Brielle and Pela, sound like L.A. teenagers. They are appealing, however, and I want to know what happens to them. The central character, Brielle, changes over the course of the story from a whiney, privileged child into an admirable leader. The dialogue and tone seem consistent from scene to scene."

"Description and dialogue are used to create suspense and conflict. The conflict between Brielle and Kyarr propels the story forward. They take actions that move the story along. Their actions are in keeping with who they are."
