Dermatoceps

Scientists are testing with a hybridised cordyceps fungus which has proven effective as a cure with every fungus except ringworm, instead the hybrid combines with the ringworm fungus somehow, The fungus is named Dermatoceps, (dermatophytosis+cordyceps) and is highly infectious among humans, A scientist is exposed to the fungus due to a rip in a hazard suit turning the scientist into a violent zombie. The zombie starts eating the scientists but not leaving them to turn. after five minutes the zombie's back bursts unleashing constant spores which infect anyone within 5 Metres of them, not long later 5% of the american population is dead. The story follows a mother on her own whilst in labour trying to get to Canada without being in contact with the zombies, The Canadians have managed to border off America before anything can get in. The protagonist is implied to be a rape survivor from a young age and was just out of an abusive relationship with her husband, her father was also abusive and her mother died in childbirth Zombies: They are easy to kill, tearing off a limb would be enough to put one down They are highly antisocial and will hunt each other down, They will attempt to rip people apart and consume them to gain nutrients to produce more spores, They have stronger muscles with similar arm strength to half life zombies and similar speed to zombieland zombies. Zombies will eventually lose their teeth due to decay, near the end zombie corpses will be left in standing positions covered in mycelium threads and with the fungus fully grown out of its head (if not replacing it) The universe is strange similar to It follows, some aspects from a futuristic scenario will exist but some things will be older I.E TV and Cars, Weather and seasons will also be odd and inconsistant
