Desolation

Desperately seeking a way out of her isolated lifestyle, Kristie Potts, along with her ex-boyfriend Sean Kenner, take an extended road trip down to St. Louis. where Kristie, after having a fallout with her father, hopes to start a new chapter in her life with him. As the two travel across the country, trying to make small talk, several malfunctions in their GPS lead them too the deserted town of Columbus, Indiana, where they soon discover not all is what it appears to be. After a close encounter with a hungry pack of werewolves and a man with his intestines fused together, the terrified wanderers soon meet up with Adriane, a rogue vampire who decides to help Sean and Kristie in their efforts to escape, knowing what danger the town poses to them. She takes them to her husband, Benedict (also a vampire) where he explains to them the history of the town and how God cast them all out there. After his somewhat elaborate explanation, Kristie, tired of Sean's eagerness to become a vampire, tells Benedict to grant his wish. He complies and in a matter of minutes, Sean finds himself transformed. Wit his new found powers, the four load up in Adriane's truck and make their way towards the city limits. Along the way, they come across Cthulhu, a mythical cosmic monster who attacks the group with it's large unearthly tentacles. In the chaos, the creature uses its power and creates an image of Kristie's father which he uses to bait Sean and lure Kristie into its grasp. Cthuluh suceeds and abducts Kristie to its lair, an abandoned mall just south of the groups location. As Benedict, Sean, and Adriane race to save her, Kristie finds herself confronting her own fears at the mall, until she is eventually lured into accepting a fake, ideal version of Sean. The illusion is thankfully shattered by a grenade as Sean, Benedict, and Adriane arrive, save Kristie, and race to escape. However, with a sea of a rather unusual breed of vampires blocking their way, Kristie confesses her love to Sean before plowing their way through the group. However, Sean looses control of himself and accidentally kills Kristie. However, he saves her just in the nick of time, by turning her into a vampire, much to her annoyance. The four escape, regroup and make a quick pit stop at a chape before they are confronted with their final enemy. With an entire compendium of creatures at their feet, Benedict orders Adriane to take the two to safety. She reluctantly agrees and the three hurry towards the edge of the town. Sean and Kristie say a fond farewell to Adriane and leave to start their new life in St. Louis. Weeks later, while Kristie is at a job interview, Sean finds himself confronted by a mysterious government organization with one goal, to send him back into the town. Fortunately, Benedict miraculously arrives, and tells Sean how he and Adriane were able to escape. Sean begins putting the pieces together just as a mysterious darkness envelopes the city. Sean and Kristie look out to the streets, see the familiar chaos and creatures before them, and decide to pick up the torch and save the town.
