Synopsis/Details
Shiloh and Gracie see each other often yet have never spoken. With the beginning of the last week of high school, and the supremely-important grad dance set for Friday, they each feel this is the last chance to make a change before their lives are set forever. There's only one problem - Devon, Gracie's toxic boyfriend. Things begin Monday with an innocent look in the hallway, and random run ins both cannot deny excite them. They tell their friends of these budding feelings and suddenly are sucked into a whirlwind of escapades, betrayal and strange scenes set to old music as Shiloh struggles to be the right kind of romantic and Gracie faces the hard choices she's never been able to make. Things become complicated on Tuesday when it seems Shiloh leaks a private photo of Gracie to the entire school and their friends are confronted with their own problems. Terry is a Buddha-like bear always ready with a quip (or novel) of advice for Shiloh, yet unable to face any real confrontation. His partner, the transitioning Listelle who still goes by his old name, packs a lot of zest behind Gracie yet refuses to utter a single word. Roxy, the smartest, fittest and most popular girl in school struggles with loneliness as she urges Gracie onward, while Sven teaches Shiloh to live devil-may-care despite his questionable attitude towards women. These four spew wisdom of all sorts as they try to cement our reluctant heroes into a couple while dodging Devon's devious designs, the watchful eye of the teachers and an odd subplot involving a man handing out pamphlets to join his harem. Wednesday flies by with the six trying desperately to make the destined lovers live up to that title through a series of intense activities, but before they know it the dance is just around the corner with only one day left. Devon however, put off by Gracie's pushing away, re-utilizes the photo trap he laid for Shiloh and lands the boy in detention. All seems lost as Roxy loses faith in her efforts, Terry stands apart when needed most, Sven refuses to fight for what he wants and Listelle stop himself from taking the lead. But hope remains, as the gang all push each other to break Shiloh out, take down Devon's minions, and ready themselves for the all-important event of their pre-adult lives. Toes are tapping and socks are hopping as the ultimate showdown begins on the dance floor. Twisting, tangoing and two-stepping their way around Devon, the best-laid plans gone astray and their own feelings, each member of the group finds the answer they need to move on and ready for the next part of their lives. Roxy realizes she cannot live vicariously through her friends as her mother does through her, Terry finally accepts he must put aside words and take action sometimes despite his beliefs, Sven admits his weaknesses and bows to responsibility and respect and Listelle reveals his pointed thoughts about living in the modern era. Finally overthrowing Devon and accepting their faults, Gracie and Shiloh reconcile on the roof. As the sun sets on their last day as students, the two come to a shared realization that it isn't love they need after all. Gracie decides to pay time to the one person who needs her the most - herself - and take on the mantle of independence as scary as it may seem. Shiloh commits himself to learning more about what he wants before seeking it out in another and understanding that people are different when it comes to something so important like love. The two face the uncertain future by choosing to first let go of urgency and just dance on their own terms - as star-crossed friends.

The Writer: Garrett Mallory Scott

Living in Toronto since 2016 I have pursued a career as a writer and filmmaker. With 4 of my scripts produced (plus several student films) I am now aiming to get my first feature underway - check out my scripts to see which you'd like to watch first! My work has been screened across Canada, the United States and now in Italy, and I have won awards for and published plays and short stories, plus a novella. I also do historical research including on an upcoming World War 2 feature. When not furiously typing at my computer I can be found traveling, training in martial arts and watching movies (more research I suppose...). Go to bio
