Synopsis/Details
Kate and Erika hang out in Kate's bedroom excited and conversing about attending their first semester of college. Suddenly, Erika's cell phone rings, and she doesn't recognize the number. She wasn't going to pick up but quickly decides to answer it. "Hello!" Erika answers but stands there silently, holding the phone to her ear.
Kate asks Erika who's on the phone and notices her strange behavior. Like a zombie in a trance, Erika speaks slowly, "Must get hit by a car," and slowly walks out of the house. Kate becomes concerned, knowing something was wrong, as she runs behind Erika to stop her. Erika stands in the middle of the street while a car moving fast comes up towards her. Kate screams and begs Erika to "move out the street," but, was too late as the car hit Erika flipping her in the air. Sadden in shock, Kate noticed everyone around her that uses, speak, or answer their cell phones, begin doing strange and demonic things.
Kate later meets two police officers who save her from two men who tried to attack her and force her to speak on their cell phone to turn her demonic. Kate and the two officers (Rob and Blake) rides through the town while witnessing everyone acting corruptly, doing crazy and evil things. Not knowing what to do, officer Rob thought it was safe to call the mayor for help and find out what was going on but, he also falls into the trap of phone and tries to attack Kate and Blake. Blake kicks Rob out of the moving car, and the two continue riding while trying to figure out what was going on.
Later they hear police sirens thinking it was help coming, but saw it was Rob and other zombie officers chasing them on the attack. They outrun the police zombies and hides in the woods. There, they meet a couple (Alan and Zoey) who were also running from phone zombies trying to figure out what's going on. Alan and Zoey invite them to their cabin in the woods, where they meet Zoey's mother and Alan's two sisters (Thea and Brook.)
Blake and Alan leave to find a bigger vehicle so they all can be together to find safety. While the guys were out, the phone zombies find the women in the cabin in the woods and chase them on foot. While running, Thea falls to the ground with her daughter, and the phone zombies attack her forcing their cell phones onto her ears. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a mystery guy named Cam shoots the phone zombies off Thea and save them as they reunite with Blake and Alan in a minivan. They all decide to stop at a convenience store for supplies.
While in the store, they all get ambushed by the phone zombies. While the zombies were coming to attack, they see an old mystery woman named Maria, who owned the store and was a psychic, led them underground the store to safety. Maria the psychic tells them the whole US has been getting those strange phone calls, and the entire United States is in chaos. She tells them the only way back to safety is to leave the states and go to the islands.
They all plan to make it to the nearest marina, get on a yacht, and sail to the islands. As they all attempt to make it to the marina, The phone zombies take all them down in different situations except Kate, Blake, and Thea's daughter as they make it to the marina and yacht and sail away to safety.
