
Synopsis/Details
Malik witness his mother takes advantage of his father throughout his adolescent years. One day, he sees his father catches his mother in the bedroom with another man, and his mother beats his father for doing so. Malik saw his father still in love with his mother and vowed he'd never let a woman treat him that way. Malik makes it to middle school and falls in love with a girl named Maggie. Malik and Maggie were in love until their junior year of high school. Maggie tells Malik she's going to a party with a few friends where he catches her intoxicated, with her clothes off, in a room with young college men. Malik's heart gets crushed, and he's determined to get revenge on Maggie, so he decides to have sex with Maggie's best friend, Stephanie.
Malik tells everyone and feels good watching Maggie and Stephanie fight each other over him. Malik begins feeling cocky and flirts with many girls at school. Why he even had sex with his best friend Jerry's girl, and his friend Jerry never knew about it. Malik becomes a drug dealer and sold drugs to students at school, including his math teacher Mr. James. One evening, Mr. James asked Malik to wait for him in front of his home until he finishes grading papers. While Malik was waiting, Mr. James' wife opens the front door and invites Malik in. She tells Malik her husband (Mr. James) told her to buy the drugs from him. Mrs. James tells Malik she does cocaine and her husband doesn't know. She then asks Malik what it would take for her to get some free and begin rubbing and touching him. Mr. James pulls up and catches the two having sex. Mr. James immediately beats his wife while Malik runs out of the house.
The next day at school, Mr. James makes peace with Malik and tells him he and his wife are back on good terms. Malik was relieved as he and Mr. James begin conversing, becoming friends again. Mr. James then asks Malik if he can supply him with more drugs and wanted Malik to meet him after school in the parking lot. After school, Malik waited for Mr. James, but instead, police cars drove up and surround him. Mr. James walks up and tells the police to arrest Malik. The police find the drugs then placed Malik in the back of the police car. Mr. James smiles at Malik while being placed in the backseat of the police car before going to jail.
Malik does a couple of years in prison and decides to move to Chicago with his mother once released. In Chicago, Malik meets a good friend named Larry, who helped him get a job at a coffee shop working for Big Pat. Big Pat was a businessman and a highly respected drug dealer. Big Pat took a liking to Malik because he said Malik was very loyal. Big Pat and his wife named Dana, gave Malik a position alongside Larry in their organization. They all worked and made money together.
One evening, Malik rides with Big Pat in his 1970 Chevelle ss car. Big Pat shows Malik how fast it can go. Suddenly, they flew by a police officer who pulls them over and arrests Big Pat for arguing with an officer and resisting arrest. While Big Pat gets incarcerated for the weekend, he tells his wife Dana to get Malik and Larry and attend an important meeting for him.
After the three finish the meeting, they all celebrate by having drinks with friends. While they all were enjoying themselves, Dana begins making passes and flirting with Malik. She asks Malik to drive her home because she had one too many drinks. Malik agrees to take her home, and when they arrive at Dana's house, she invites Malik in and throws herself at him. They have hardcore sex then spoke deep conversations about each other. Dana tells Malik how Big Pat mistreats her, and Malik comforts her while holding her throughout the night.
Big Pat soon gets out of jail, and business goes back to normal, except Malik and Dana continue their affair behind Big Pat's back. One night, while Dana and Malik were working in the bakery shop, Big Pat beats up Dana for forgetting to pick up one of his packages. Malik felt bad because it was nothing he could do. When Big Pat leaves, Malik comforts Dana and finally tells her he loves her. Dana was caught off guard by his words and quickly rushes out of the bakery shop, leaving Malik speechless.
The next day, Big Pat tells Malik and Larry he's going out of town on a business trip, and he wants them to take care of things while he's away. While Big Pat's away, Dana tells Malik she's pregnant by him because her husband Big Pat can't have any kids. Dana tells Malik she is afraid for her life because of what Big Pat would do to them if he finds out. Malik comes up with a plan for him and Dana to sneak back to his home state of Mississippi so Dana can have their child safely and they all could be a family together.
They stayed at a hotel to hide out before they leave. On their last night in town, Big Pat and his goons, burst through the door of their room while they were asleep, and attack Malik. Dana begs and screams, but Big Pat was full of anger and rage. Big Pat ordered the guys to put Malik in the trunk of his car, and they drop him off on the highway, beaten and badly injured.
Malik wakes up in the hospital and finds out Dana was in the hospital also. He gets in a wheelchair and rolls down to Dana's room. He was shocked to see Dana badly beaten lying in her death bed. He grabs Dana by the hand, and she opens her eyes and sees him. Malik tells her he's sorry and he loves her. Dana begins struggling, trying to breathe, then Malik hears a flat line signal from her machine. Malik breaks down, stunned and saddened, while the tears roll down his cheeks.
