Synopsis/Details
While LAURA LARSSON (35) was suffering from crippling postpartum depression, her baby daughter, MADISON, nearly drowned in the family pool. Fast-forward two years later, Laura is now divorced and a successful lawyer. However, she is secretly terrified that she might relapse and lose custody of her daughters; (Madison (3) and Emily (6). One night, when she forgets to pick up the girls from school, her ex-husband, JAMES (38), raises doubts over her ability as a mother.
Desperate to prove that she is fit to look after her children, Laura decides to purchase a one of a kind brain enhancement called E-BRAIN and becomes the ultimate Mom. But things take a turn for the worse when the E-BRAIN sets her up on a date with a charismatic man, MICHAEL JONES (38).
After a short whirlwind romance, Michael becomes weirdly clingy and stalks Laura. Laura goes to the police, but they cannot trace him. When Michael ramps up his stalking, Laura is forced to ask James to look after the girls full-time, prompting him to question her sanity again. When a detective checks the CCTV cameras at the bar where she met Michael, he discovers that she was, in fact, alone.
With her delusions exposed, Laura checks into a mental health institution. There, a patient tells her that she believes her device was hacked into, but her therapist refuses to remove the E-BRAIN since they use it for therapy.
As a last-ditch attempt to prove her sanity, Laura pretends that she no longer sees E-BRAIN/Michael and gets a two-week release from hospital to drive to West Bank, Virginia, a place where there is no cellular signal. Despite facing escalating threats from E-BRAIN/Michael, who almost leads her to crash her car, he disappears as soon as she hits West Bank. There, she encounters the inventor of her faulty E-BRAIN based on his own memories, which he tried to withdraw from circulation. He removes the device and her delusions stop.
Laura takes the makers of E-BRAIN to court and wins. Unbeknown to her, however, her E-BRAIN gets stolen from the evidence room, is sold to the black market, and now controls her new boyfriend.
