Synopsis/Details
This is a musical dramedy.
A singer whose childhood trauma has her rejecting anything to do with Christmas will confront her Past, Present, and Future one Christmas Eve, forcing her to make the ultimate decision: die inside her isolation, or learn to embrace the true meaning of life—which is the gift of oneself.
Ebony Scroogins has it all: fame as a chart-topping singer, her own music enterprise, and no one to answer to.
She also knows how to keep people at a distance. Her nephew, Matthew, is the son of her deceased twin sister, Joy, and her only living relative. He only wants to be a part of her life—she only wants to be left alone. Her heavily put-upon, underpaid assistant, Bobbie, who's responsible for an aged grandfather, would like Ebony’s help to become a singer. However, Ebony’s only focused on her own career—and she insists on Bobbie doing the same. Then there’s Jack, Ebony’s talent agent, who wants to be more than that. Ebony’s attracted to him; however, she suppresses her feelings for Jack because, first, she never mixes business with pleasure, and second (and most important), she never, ever dates white men. Last, there’s Timothy, a special little boy Ebony meets outside her building, who sells bags of ice to buy a special Christmas gift for his dying best friend, Calvin. He reminds her too much of herself when she was his age, and instead of buying ice, Ebony tells Timothy to beat it.
However, Ebony’s life is soon turned upside down on Christmas Eve, when, after getting drunk, she falls and hits her head. Her unconsciousness makes way for three entities: her deceased twin Joy, who represents her past; Timothy’s orphanage social worker, Meghan, who represents her present; and a terrifying hooded faceless Strange Man, who represents her terrifying future.
Ebony must travel to her past to relive the mass church shooting by a white man that killed her parents on Christmas Eve. She's then forced to confront her present, where her estranged life choices have far-reaching effects on everyone around her. Her final destination is an unknown grave that could be hers in the very near future.
