Synopsis/Details
The Roman Empire never collapsed.
In 300 A.D. the great General Superius was miraculously imbued with the powers of the gods and went on to lead the empire's unprecedented growth and expansion across the sea into the new world.
Superius and his troops encountered the indigenous peoples who lived there, in what we know as Modern day New York State. The native peoples, themselves capable of extraordinary feats of power and magic, halted Rome's growth. There was forged an uneasy peace which allowed the Roman peoples to settle one solitary city: Empire City. Boundaries were extended, with giant walls to prevent the city from extending into the indigenous people's territory.
After this, what some might call his first real defeat, Superius faded into obscurity, no one knows where he went, and history proceeded into an era of marvelous technological advancement. Empire City became its own governed state apart from Rome, which, without the uniting hand of Superius, began to break into 4 separate empires.
By then, Demi-Humans had become numerous. In Rome, proper, the response to these godlike beings capable of flight, or igniting into flame and soaring through the skies, or shooting energy beams from their hands, were treated with fear, or contempt and prejudice. Armies arose to combat these perceived threats to peace and order. One such army, from one of the kingdoms of Rome, The Alans, proved to be the most effective in subjugating the Demi Human threat.
Atrocities, the history books would record as 'Cleansings' were committed. Millions of Demi Humans died, or worse.
In Empire City, far from the troubles and violent eruptions of Europe, Demi Humans were embraced as free citizens. Empire City became prosperous, the most populous city on the globe.
Now, in present day Empire City, a thriving metropolis is home to human and demi-human alike. It's not perfect. In fact, some might say that with so many centuries of growth and peace, that something calamitous is bound to disturb and disrupt....
These are the stories of Empire City.
