Synopsis/Details
The story starts with Nicolas’ arrival at Havana Airport. He is returning for the 1st time since he left as a young man 15 years ago. His Uncle Luis, a powerful military man with a bad temper awaits Nicolas’ arrival to drive to the funeral. The odd couple must drive to the small town of Caibaríen for the funeral where Nick’s Mother, Maria, still lives. Old arguments about politics and life surface on their journey. Nicolas blames his Uncle for his parents remaining in Cuba and the loss of his family. Now he worries that maybe he has lost his mother to his Uncle’s influence forever. Nicolas has big dreams for his mother, but he is overwhelmed with emotions of things that could have been with his father that will never be. He won’t let this opportunity to save his mother be lost. But now things are dangerous for Nicolas and his mother. Uncle Luis is powerful, comfortable and proud and he won’t let the shame of his sister leaving bring him down. Nicolas must find a way to save what’s left of his family but the ghosts of the past and nostalgia for an almost forgotten childhood are tearing Nick apart. This tragic story of love and family and life is just one of many untold stories where lives are destroyed by destiny….
