Synopsis/Details
Joel Carver (30s), the only son of billionaire Neil Carver (60-70s), is kidnapped and executed by Al-Queda terrorists while working in the Middle East for his father's global construction company, Carver International. Upon discovering that Grant Taylor, an old college rival and now a U.S. senator, unduly influenced government contracts through his position on the Senate Appropriations Committee and steered Carver International to the most dangerous place on earth, Neil decides to hold Grant responsible for his son's death. And when Neil runs into Dr. Paul Marks, another college buddy, in the Middle East and learns that Grant also stole Neil's college sweetheart away from him while he was serving in Vietnam, Neil's anger reaches the boiling point and he avows revenge.
So, to get even, Neil kidnaps Grant's daughter, Jenny, at her wedding and whisks her off to his remote summer cabin where he locks her away in a secret bunker. But Dr. Marks and his wife, Monica, are at the wedding and recognize Neil's Rolex watch when the police find it on the floor in Jenny's dressing room at the church where she was kidnapped. They decide not to tell the police who the watch belongs to and elect to rescue Jenny themselves. They ultimately track Neil down at his cabin, but their plans to rescue Jenny are thwarted when Ahmad and Hamid, employees of Neil's company in the Middle East, show up---armed to the teeth---and announce their plans to kill Neil so that Ahmad can inherit his fortune and wage a jihad against the U.S. (Neil adopted Ahmad and added him to his will after Ahmad's parents were killed by U.S. bombs during the first Gulf War while he and Neil's son, Joel, were roommates at Stanford). When Ahmad reveals that he also arranged Joel's death, Neil goes crazy and tries to kill Ahmad with his bare hands. But Ahmad knocks him nearly unconscious with his rifle, and he and Hamid march Neil, Paul and Monica down to the boathouse where they intend to shoot them, fill their pockets with rocks and dump them in the lake.
Meanwhile, Jenny has escaped from the bunker by crawling through the duct work of the cabin and witnesses everything through an air vent in the living room. Once everyone has left the house, she kicks out the grate, crawls out into the living room, grabs a shotgun from Neil's gun case and sneaks down to the lake where she shoots Hamid and interrupts Ahmad's plan. Ahmad tries to escape by flying away in the float plane, but Neil shoots the plane and sends it into a fireball across the lake.
Finally, Grant and the police show up and arrest Neil for kidnapping---and Paul and Monica for withholding information and interfering with a criminal investigation. But before they are all hauled away, Monica shocks everyone by revealing that Neil is actually Jenny's father---not Grant. It turns out that Laura (Neil's college sweetheart) was pregnant when Neil got drafted and was shipped off to Vietnam. So, to avoid the stigma associated with having Jenny out of wedlock, Laura quickly married Grant and told everyone that the baby was born prematurely. Furthermore, she made Monica promise not to tell Jenny the truth about her father. But now, thanks to Monica's decision to break her promise, Neil and Jenny are reunited and can begin the process of bonding as father and daughter.
However, the final scene reveals that Ahmad survived the plane crash and is huddled over a small fire in the woods near Neil's cabin, nursing his injuries!
