Synopsis/Details
Josh and Caren, a seemingly perfect couple, are living the dream in their upscale suburban bubble. Josh, a successful but semi-racist exec, has always enjoyed the perks of his white privilege without giving it much thought. Caren, his fiancée, is mixed-race but easily passes for white, and she's spent most of her life navigating the subtle, sometimes subconscious racial biases that come with being in the “grey area.” Their world is comfortable, predictable, and above all, safe.
That is, until one night, after dinner at a neighbor’s house, they wake up to find everything — and everyone — changed. In this new reality, 400 years of history has been reversed. Black people now hold the power, while white people have become the marginalized minority. Historical figures, major landmarks, even affirmative action laws have been flipped, and racial tensions are at an all-time high.
Josh, who’s never had to consider his race before, finds himself suddenly the target of suspicion, discrimination, and even physical threats. Caren, whose racial identity has always been fluid, now stands at a crossroads. Despite her skin tone, she’s always identified with white culture, but in this world, the old complexities of her identity are now painfully front and center.
As the couple navigates this new world, they must confront their assumptions, face uncomfortable truths about their family’s past, and figure out how to survive in a society where the rules have drastically shifted. Can they lean on each other for support? Or does the pressure of this new world erode the foundations of their relationship, forcing them to ask: Are we willing to fight — or is this new reality too much to overcome?
“FOUR HUNDRED to NONE” is a twisted, thought-provoking exploration of race, privilege, and identity, where the world has turned upside down, and Josh and Caren must scramble to make sense of it — and of each other.
