Synopsis/Details
When a deadly mistake threatens to upend the life of award-winning investigative journalist Harper Stone, she turns to her best friend Sara Solimon—a famous true crime podcast host—to become her accomplice in covering up a murder. The two women team up to derail the homicide investigation linked to Harper, bringing them face-to-face with LAPD Homicide Lieutenant Amy Pearce, who has a personal vendetta against Harper—while thrusting them down a dangerous path of crime, manipulation, and destroying evidence in order to avoid consequences for their actions. As Harper grapples with the morality of her actions, she begins to question Sara’s true nature and whether she can truly be trusted when Sara uses the murder weapon as leverage to bribe Harper into helping her investigate a high-profile case for the new season of her podcast—forcing Harper to reconnect with District Attorney Mandy Ryder (who happens to be the estranged wife of Lieutenant Pearce) in order to gain access to confidential case files. As Harper struggles to keep her life together, she must maintain a delicate balance between keeping up appearances as the loving girlfriend to Nate and the dutiful maid of honor in her sister's upcoming wedding, with her newfound world of deception, murder, and moral decay— which is further complicated when sparks begin to fly between Harper and DA Ryder.  When a witness begins blackmailing Harper with photo evidence linking her to the murder she committed, she has no choice but to put her fate in the hands of Sara—who assures Harper she’ll handle the situation. But when Harper turns up at Sara’s house unexpectedly, she could never prepare herself for the shock of finding Sara hacking up the body of the witness, along with 4 additional decapitated frozen heads—ultimately unveiling that Sara…is a serial killer.  Heart of Stone delves into the relationships between the characters and the secrets they keep, as well as the personal struggles they face as they battle their own inner demons and dangerous desires. The hour-long episodes masterfully weave together themes of passion, power, corruption, misogyny, injustice, loyalty, the aftermath of traumas, and women fighting back, while raising the question of whether one can do evil and still be considered 'good'.
