Synopsis/Details
In the early morning Francisco heads into the home of his client, Ron, a paraplegic elderly man. Francisco begins his routine with Ron by getting him out of bed and performing Miscellaneous tasks to help Ron live comfortably. He heads to his apartment and his girlfriend gets on him about finding a different job other than caregiving, he agrees to start looking. He gets a call from his mom a few hours later, she gives him the bad news, Granny has cancer. She asks him to come home and care for him, but he declines because he does not want to leave Ron. Later, Ron convinces Francisco to go down and care for her, letting him off the hook. He decides to head home to California. Once he arrives home he is welcomed by his mom Patti and brother Roberto, both have been caring for Granny. He also crosses paths with his cousin Maria, who has been lazily caring for her and is suspicious why he has come back home. Francisco gets trained by Roberto before being solo with Granny. On his first day Francisco gives his Granny a marijuana cookie and she gets her appetite back. While she’s eating Fernando asks Granny to teach him spanish, she agrees. That evening Roberto takes Francisco out to catch up with old friends he has not seen in years. The following day Granny faints and Francisco wants to take her to the hospital, but his mom tells him they can't afford to take her in. So they have to wait until her next appointment until she can see a doctor. Granny and Francisco get closer as she teaches him spanish and he wants to know more about his Granny. Maria asks questions about where Granny’s credit card is and Granny lets slip where it's at. Granny is at her appointment and it seems that the cancer is in remission, but still tests have to be done. Back at the house Maria tells Francisco and Roberto that she is going out with friends, they wonder how she can afford to go out. As Francisco is caring for Granny she coughs up blood and she hides it from him. Later as she is napping Maria enters her room and places back the credit card she took. Francisco almost catches her, instead they share a moment together. He asks her if she can look after Granny for a few hours while he hangs out with friends, and she agrees. Francisco goes out for lunch and catches up with his friends again. While he is out, Roberto gets home early and finds that Maria is not at the house and that Granny is unconscious on the floor. Meeting Roberto at the hospital Francisco finds out that her cancer is actually coming on stronger and she now has weeks left in her life. They get her back home and turn the living room into Granny’s space. As they are setting up Maria comes home and Francisco unleashes on her. They have a huge argument and he confronts Maria for stealing and abandoning Granny. Granny stops the argument and tells Maria shes known about her stealing from her and shames her for it. Francisco continues to care for granny and is having breakfast with her, they decide to go for a walk, while he is getting ready, she passes away. The family prepare for the funeral. At the service Francisco says his last words about his Granny in spanish. The family comes together to honor their Granny.

The Writer: Fernando Moreno

I was a writer/director who worked in Portland, Oregon. I filmed a short called Virus (2018) and I have written a few shorts while in Portland. I have recently moved to California and decided to focus on writing features. I managed to write four in different genres horror, drama, romantic comedy, and fantasy. Two of the scripts are ready to get out there! I also am keen on writing Hispanic characters and having Latino representation. I am looking to find like minded people, hopefully sell one of my scripts if I can, and find more work. Excited to be here! Go to bio
