Synopsis/Details
In Homecoming to Murder, Nathan Perry has moved back to his hometown of Mystic, Massachusetts when he is hired as the new police detective. But, before his job is made permanent, he must find who kill Raymond Miller during a home burglary.
After graduating high school, Nathan left Mystic to join the army and served in Afghanistan where he was injured in an IED explosion. Now recovered, he left his former girlfriend in Washington, D.C. to returned to his hometown as the police department's first detective. It doesn't take long for him to get reacquainted with a few old friends, including his high school girlfriend, Dana Tyler, who is now the lead reporter for the local newspaper. Nathan has to remember to think carefully before he talks to her about his investigations.
Assigned his first case, he must find who is breaking in to homes on Mano Island, an affluent community in Mystic, including who murdered a homeowner. With a murderer running around the streets of town, the Mayor Robert Newcomb and Police Chief Paul Cabot expect Nathan to solve the murder right away. He doesn't like politics, but soon discovers he may have to play the game to earn his job.
Right off, Nathan causes some controversy when he suggests to the Mano Island Homeowners' Association that they should consider getting their own security to keep crime down on the island, which doesn't sit well with both the mayor and chief. Nathan studies the individual cases and finds that clues are few and far between. However, after two more burglaries occur, things start coming together and he has a few ideas.
Finally, Nathan has a suspect when Bishop was arrested for trying to force his way into the mayor's home on Mano Island, as well as demanding to see the mayor at his office. Without enough evidence for a search warrant, Nathan questions Bishop for information. When he meets Bishop's attorney, he discovers she is from a law firm in Boston. He discovers that Thompson's law firm works for some of the biggest criminals in the city. Why would an attorney like Thompson represent a small-time crook like Bishop?
In the meantime, Ricky Carter has decided to do the last planned break-in without Frank and against the boss's orders. He breaks into a home where he was sure the owner was gone. To his surprise, the elderly lady was home and he comes face-to-face with her. She's holding a gun. After disarming her, he ties her hands just as he hears the police arrive outside. He had tripped the silent alarm in the home. Nathan is called to the scene and persuades Carter to let him take the lady's place as hostage. She's released unharmed and Nathan talks Carter into confessing to the past break-ins and to his surprise, Carter confesses to the murder of Raymond Miller. Nathan is even more shocked when Carter also reveals who the real mastermind is of the crimes.
After Carter's arrest, Nathan questions Bishop again and he finally confesses to the identity of their boss and if his attorney finds out he talked, she'll tell the boss, who hired her, and will see to it that he’s killed before he can testify. Timing has to be perfect to arrest the boss before he finds out the police know about him and he flees.
State Police Homicide Detective Denzinger informs Nathan that they have found a cyber-trail of the money from the hacked accounts.
Nathan now has everything he needs to make an arrest. He calls reporter Dana Tyler and suggests she go to the police department as an arrest is about to be made for Raymond Miller's murder. He and three other officers go to the boss's home and find him packing a bag in preparation to flee. He's arrested, and Nathan’s job is made permanent.
During his time back in Mystic, Nathan has been staying in contact with his former girlfriend, Katherine, while also rekindling a relationship with Dana Tyler. Dana stops by Nathan's office to congratulate him on the arrest and also becoming a permanent member of the Mystic Police Department. They decide to go to dinner, but before they leave, Nathan's phone rings. It's Katherine. He tries to tell her about the arrests that were made, as she tries to tell him some news of her own. Finally, he stops talking long enough for her to tell him she's pregnant and the baby is his.
