Synopsis/Details
IN VITRO is a non-linear short horror script in three parts, connecting Q-Anon type conspiracy theories with a suicidal bi-polar werewolf, an unwanted pregnancy, and a couple who give birth to a cute little monster after undergoing in vitro treatment. I wrote it before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, which has made abortion illegal in many states. It's timely because it’s about unplanned pregnancies and the fear of giving birth to a “deformed” baby (or monster in this case). Can a mother be forced to bear a child she didn’t want to conceive for other reasons -- say rape or fear the child may inherit hereditary conditions such as depression and mental illness. It also raises questions about in vitro fertilization. Must every fertilized egg be brought to term? Will women who have multiple eggs implanted be forced to give birth to all of them? If a miscarriage terminates the pregnancy, will the mother be charged with manslaughter? Legal abortions, birth control and IVF are still available... for now. That could all change sooner than we think.
