Synopsis/Details
Khalid Abadi should be loving life. As a respected physicist, he’s studying the building blocks of reality. But he’s under more than a little stress with a break-up, the deadline for an important grant, and the death of his beloved cat. The only thing he’s positive of is his rigid belief in atheism. The one thing Khalid is sure of is the one thing that’s utterly wrong. When Khalid is killed by a bus, he discovers the afterlife is real — all of them, in fact. Making things more confusing is a “hiccup.” 99.4 percent of the time, when people die, they’re sent to the right afterlife. Once in a great while, someone goes to the wrong place. Khalid finds himself drafted by Adeona, the Roman Goddess of Safe Returns. She doesn’t know why The System is broken and she doesn’t know why the hiccups are accelerating. What she suspects is that a cataclysm is coming, and her only hope is to team with a stressed-out scientist, one who’s not her ideal partner. Now, Khalid has the chance to find something to believe in. To do that, he’ll need to get to the bottom of the hiccups, stand up to a cynical influencer, and prevent Adeona from killing him.
