Synopsis/Details
Paul, a 20-something games designer living in Brighton, gets shaken out of his respectable, upwardly mobile married existence when his reprobate bisexual father Dave turns up on Paul's doorstep in fear of his life. A local gangster thinks Dave might squeal to the police and has put a hit man on the case. Dave has an escape plan - Paul will sail his yacht over to France so that Dave can disappear until all this blows over. Paul won’t sail until the morning, so father and son must get through the night without gangster or police catching up with them. Staying at Paul’s is too dangerous, so the two are forced to hit the town. But a tortured family history involving Paul’s mother’s death haunts their relationship, causing Paul to think it might be better if Dave falls into the gangster’s hands. One call to the right person will put a bullet in Dave and silence the ghosts of the past forever. But blood is thicker than water, and Dave is a man as charming as he is reckless and unrestrained. During their incident packed and emotionally charged night on the town, the relationship between the two men oscillates between extremes of love and hatred, loyalty and betrayal before reaching a shattering climax in the morning at sea on the yacht.

My scripts tend to be based around the deep human or spiritual conflicts of their protagonists – the need for love and acceptance, something to believe in, desires and temptations, terrible rage and self-sacrificial acts. My characters are vibrant and often larger-than-life. There’s always a mixture of humour and pathos. Sometimes very nasty things happen, there’s some really mean and low-down characters, but there's also saints, great acts of benevolence and moments of connection and peace. I have written more than 20 plays for the stage, many of which have been… Go to bio
