Synopsis/Details
Think, the guys from SUPERBAD running NASA. Think, a LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE-esque dysfunctional family on a journey of self-discovery. Offbeat humour, grounded by heartfelt moments.
The story follows ARMSTRONG, a depressed geeky rocket builder, who hails from the Arrowsmiths, an all-American family with NASA in their blood. With an astronaut father and an astronaut sister, all he ever wanted to be was - you got it - an astronaut. But up to now, all he's ever been is a loser.
When his civilian space-agency is threatened with closure, he goes to his big sister ODYSSEY – NASA's golden girl – for help. But her new found fame don't sit too well and she's thinking of leaving NASA, so she refuses. So, Armstrong launches a crowdfunding campaign to go to space.
Of course this goes viral, because it's insane, and thus he incurs the wrath of his father - CAPTAIN ARROWSMITH, an old school NASA legend - who covertly sets about ending his son's mission before it's even started.
Armstrong and his McNASA friends have to deal with building a rocket, test launch failures, a crazy Greenpeace protest girl, an unscrupulous TV reporter hell-bent on character assassination. And behind it all, is his manipulative father and malfunctioning sister...
This is a story with lofty, space-themed ambitions. But it's also anchored in a quirky California neighbourhood reality. Essentially, this is a coming-of-age tale, a story of a young boyman and his broken family who have to find a way to live together.
