Synopsis/Details
After her third miscarriage, Mia Evans avoids grieving by accepting a work assignment to help fund an orphanage in India. Her mission is cut short when a massive earthquake hits, causing vast devastation and cutting off all means of communication. Huge mudslides force everyone at the orphanage to embark on a perilous journey to a monastery in the mountains for shelter. Dan Evans, a firefighter and Mia’s husband, is forced to give up a long-awaited opportunity to adopt when he enrols in a rescue military operation to find Mia. Broken-hearted, he boards a military aircraft with his sidekick, Mateo, by his side. Unbeknownst to Dan, Mia’s life is spared. She bonds with a medical missionary couple from Norway, Elka and Renu, who on their way to the base, discover it has been ransacked by Hindu extremists. They all flee to the same monastery as the orphanage. In the mist of Dan’s rescue mission, Mia finally reaches the monastery where food is now scarce. She bonds with a lovable little orphan boy named Kadhir, who she later finds out was rescued from human trafficking. Mia manages to reach her boss, Bill, the CEO of Preston Oil Corporation, unveiling the reality of Kadhir’s story. This compels Bill to bring aid to the orphanage and take corporate action against human trafficking. A violent mob of Hindu extremists break into the monastery, disrupting the peace. While the nuns bravely place everyone in hiding, the mob steals their food, destroys the chapel and savagely beat the Mother Superior. Once the men are gone, everyone is forced to flee yet again. While on the road, they come across a barricade guarded by the very same men. They manage to escape by the skin of their teeth. In a sea of emotions, Mia and Dan miraculously reunite. Mateo stays behind with the rescue team to help repair the orphanage. Mia longs to adopt Kadhir but is prevented due to complicated policy issues. She heartbreakingly says her goodbyes to Kadhir. Back home, Mia and Dan decide to foster children. In a turn of events and to their ultimate joy, they can finally adopt Kadhir.
