Synopsis/Details
It’s pitch black. At a rundown gas station in the middle of nowhere, the atmosphere suddenly shifts and everything disappears in a blinding flash of light. SANYA SPENCER (30s), suffers from anxiety and fear of abandonment. She sees her long-time therapist, DR. BOIVIN (60s) on a regular basis. She falls in love with LUKE (40s), a man she barely knows and hasn’t yet introduced to anyone. They secretly get married on a whim. Sanya starts to have a recurring nightmare where Luke disappears at an isolated gas station. When Luke misses yet another dinner due to the demands of his work, he invites Sanya on a spontaneous road trip to make up for his absence. Sanya has some news of her own. She’s pregnant. She decides to wait till they get to their destination to tell him, but… They run out of gas and in a moment of déjà vu, Sanya’s nightmare becomes reality. At the very same gas station, Luke mysteriously disappears. INSPECTOR CONWAY (50s), arrives at the scene. When the lab returns with no proof of Luke’s fingerprints, the police dismiss the case. In a fit of rage, Sanya assaults an officer and is locked up in a psychiatric hospital for an indefinite period of time. Everyone, including her best friend MARINE (30s) thinks she is delusional. She meets NEL (70s), who 40 years ago was locked up under similar circumstances. Bound by fate and friendship they join efforts to prove the existence of their loved ones. David, a brilliant scientist researches the phenomenon of strange disappearances. He follows Sanya’s case. He visits Sanya at the hospital and they eventually team up in the search for truth. People in high places conspire to terminate Sanya’s pregnancy and erase all traces of David’s research to keep it from going public. With the help of Marine, Sanya and Nel plan an escape, but Nel is too old and gets caught. Sanya gets away. Sanya and Marine help David by retrieving a physical copy of his research at his home while they cunningly escape pursuers who are hot on their heels. David’s research makes headlines. Nel is released and falls ill. Sanya takes him in and looks after him. Sanya resigns herself to never seeing Luke again and rebuilds her life. She gives birth to a little boy until one day… Luke reappears with an identical version of Sanya. Sanya approaches the mirror image of herself, but a magnetic field emits an electric pulse preventing them from touching each other. This proves David’s theory. There is a parallel universe taking place, but this Luke is not Sanya’s husband. Why? Because Sanya is the one who actually slipped into this current parallel world. So where is Luke? Sanya, in a race against time, reenacts the road trip to the gas station with baby in tow. She emerges from her parallel world back to reality and now finds her husband Luke standing at a coffee dispenser. What made up a year of Sanya’s life only lasted a few seconds for Luke.
