Synopsis/Details:

MAKIO "MAK" LOCKE is a 28-year-old disillusioned writer, struggling with the monotony of his life and the recent betrayal by his long-term girlfriend, JENNIFER. After discovering Jennifer's infidelity through an accidental (ass-dialed) voicemail, Mak finds himself spiraling into a state of despair and confusion. He turns to his best friend, CARTER, a large, boisterous, and intellectually gifted man with a penchant for wild behavior. Together with their mutual friend, KINSEY, a confident and attractive woman who is openly lesbian, they decide to embark on a road trip to escape their problems and find some clarity.

The story is structured around Mak's internal monologue and fourth-wall-breaking commentary, providing a darkly comedic and introspective look at love, heartbreak, and the search for meaning.

Their road trip takes them from San Francisco to Las Vegas, where they reunite with MIKEY and ARI, old friends who add to the chaotic energy of the group. The trip quickly descends into a series of increasingly bizarre and surreal experiences, including drug-fueled escapades, unexpected emotional confrontations, and encounters with strangers that force Mak to confront his past and the choices that led him to his current state.

As they navigate the hedonistic and often absurd world of Las Vegas, Mak begins to question whether he can truly escape his problems or if he is simply running from them. The group's interactions reveal their own struggles with identity, love, and the expectations placed on them by society and themselves.

Ultimately, Mak finds himself face-to-face with his own insecurities and the realization that he cannot simply "fuck the sadness out" of himself. This moment of clarity sets the stage for Mak's ultimate decision: to stop avoiding his problems and start dealing with them head-on.

"Never Let Me Down" is a darkly comedic exploration of the complexities of modern love, friendship, and the existential crises that often accompany them. With its blend of humor, surrealism, and emotional depth, the screenplay offers a unique and poignant commentary on the ways we cope with pain and the lengths we go to find ourselves.
