Synopsis/Details
At a beautiful villa overlooking the Pacific, Carly awaits hosting three of her best friends from childhood. The first to arrive is her best friend Blake, who is a divorcé bringing a young floozy, Maya, in tow. Next is Ali, a once beautiful woman who has let herself go into obesity who brings her husband of twenty-five years, the still attractive and in shape Greg. Last to come is Lise, a beautiful woman the same age as Carly, Blake, and Ali, but never married and now "experimenting" with women, bringing alone her young hipster girlfriend Xania. The old foursome could not be happier to see each other, and on Thursday night they all toast each other with wine as the sun sets over the deep blue sea. Blake then asks what is planned for the weekend. Carly casually says, "all of us will murder each other."
To say this kills the mood is certainly an understatement. Lise jokes that "I think I'd like to leave", and then Ali asks Carly if she is saying they are all trapped in the house. By no means, Carly answers, anyone can leave anytime they want, "but I don't think He will let you."
While among the significant others, Greg, Xania, and Amaya, there are multiple questions about who "He" is, the main characters are strangely not inquisitive about his identity. Though all immediately want to leave, they somehow can't, and can only stay until the end. During the rest of the weekend, a dark secret among the four main characters emerges: a secret of a brutal gang rape they all participated in as teenagers and covered up. Four consummate GenXers whose adolescence was riddled with overwhelming feelings of alienation, the only outlet for their selfish feelings of "Victimship" was to lash out at an easy target who was "Nice Enough". The madness of this situation develops into brutal violence, irreverent comedy, and sexual indiscretions on a massive scale among all in the house. By the end of the weekend, only Carly remains standing, though hardly safe. Standing out on the same veranda with the same sunset behind him, "He" finally reveals himself as Carly's worst nightmare made manifest at last not just for Carly... but for GenXers entire.
