Synopsis/Details
The time is the 3rd century AD. King Starno of Sweden is envious of mighty warrior Fingal, legendary chief of the Hebridean Isles, and nurses a bitter hatred of him. Too weak to attack the islands’ king directly, he chooses to covertly draw Fingal into war. He sends his son to raid the destabilised Irish realm, controlled by Cuthullin on behalf of the boy-king Cormac. Sworn in allegiance and friendship to Cuthullin, brave Fingal, with his son Ossian by his side, arrives in time to witness the near-defeat of Éire. The battle that ensues lasts for three days, at the end of which Fingal too has to face personal losses. Adapted from James Macpherson’s OSSIAN cycle of poems, this feature film takes us back to the age of Nordic and Gaelic heroes, in which man’s greatest concern is not life, but the manner in which he dies. The epic is set in Scandinavia and Ireland.

The Writer: Christine Jokiaho

I was born in Germany to Finnish parents, learning both languages as I grew up. Being an only child encouraged me to turn to reading for companionship, particularly during summer holidays at our isolated cabin in the Finnish woods, and writing was the natural progression for a stirred imagination. In my teens I developed a love for Shakespeare and, preferring to read originals rather than translations, I forced myself to brush up on my language skills. This turned from chore to passion and now I mostly write in English. When not writing, I enjoy travelling, hiking, cinema, music and visiting museums and galleries. Go to bio
