Nine-year-old Ella's life is turned upside down when a day of skiing turns tragic. As she slowly emerges from a coma, she discovers that she must relearn everything: to sit up, swallow, speak, walk, and comprehend how drastically her life has changed. Ella has gone from a cute, popular, smart, cool kid to a disfigured special ed girl with no friends. The title comes from a moment during rehab when Ella still cannot speak. The bad dream of her damaged condition is not one that Ella can wake up from, but her awakening takes on different forms as her healing progresses. The Writer: Janet Mellor

First-time screenwriter, motivated to tell an important story. My own love-letter from mother to daughter, the screenplay relates the true story of a young girl's traumatic brain injury and recovery. What would happen if your life was turned upside down by a tragic accident? How would you deal with the consequences? What if it happened to your kid? All are questions that I believe need to be explored in order for society to truly understand the complexity of brain injury. PLEASE WAKE ME UP placed in the top 5 of the 2019 Lift-Off Global Network competition. Go to bio
