Riot

A gang known as the GASMASK GANG go on a crime spree across London, robbing banks and high-end jewellery stores. The police end up killing a young black man in connection with the crimes, but TRAVELL YOUNG is innocent. The KOLE family are having breakfast watching the story unfold on the news, father SIMON cooks for sons TRENT-16 and SUNNY-12. Mother EVELYN is in bed, too sick to join - she has leukaemia. At School, Trent comes to Sunny’s rescue when he gets bullied by thug DEMON, they get into an altercation and Trent breaks Demon’s nose, Demon swears revenge. At home, after Simon takes Evelyn to the hospital, Trent sneaks out to a party at MARISA’S- his school crush. When Sunny shows up at the party Trent decides to take him home before their parents return. On their way, they begin to hear and see explosions, buildings burning in the distance. Emotions have been running high over the wrongful killing of Travell Young, with violence and chaos now spreading throughout the city. At the hospital Evelyn chats to a young boy and his father, the boy is about the same age as Sunny. She is told by the Doctor she’ll need to travel to the U.S for treatment, an expense the family can’t afford. On their way home Simon calls Trent, after finding out they went to the party he decides to go collect them. With the violence intensifying their car is attacked as they make their way through the chaos, a couple of police officers see them in trouble and come to their rescue. Simon decides to go after his sons on foot. As Trent and Sunny make their way home, they are mistaken for rioters and pursued by the cops, they seek refuge in a small warehouse. When the owners of the warehouse return the boys realise the place belongs to the GASMASK gang, as they make their escape, on the way out Trent grabs his bag. Later realising he has picked up the wrong one, he is now in possession of a bag full of CASH and other items belonging to the gang. The gang, led by brothers MANS, LINC and their two partners NAP and CAESAR, begin to track them using a burner phone hidden in the bag. When Trent finds the burner he switches it off, but before he does he tells the gang he will turn it back on when they are safe, they can then get the location of their loot. On a dark street as they continue to make their way home, the boys are chased by youths on motorbikes, ending up cornered in an alley; when the leader steps forward and removes his helmet the boys realise it is school bully/thug DEMON. The boys manage to escape using the back door to a restaurant, Demon gives chase but the boys get away. Not long after this encounter Trent’s phone begins to ring- “DAD” flashing up on the screen. Trent answers only to realise it isn’t Simon, it is Demon. Simon had picked up the boys’ last known location when Trent charged his phone and ran right into Demon’s clutches when searching for them. Trent makes a deal with Demon, if he lets Simon go he could have the bag full of money. Demon agrees, Trent switches on the burner phone before handing the bag over; when the GASMASK gang turn up Demon is killed and the gang recover their money. The gang, not wanting to leave any loose ends discuss killing the family, Linc has a son of about Sunny’s age, after discussing it with his bother Mans they all agree to let the family live. However, Nap and Caesar have other ideas, they double cross the brothers, try to kill the family and keep everything for themselves. Mans and Linc end up saving the Kole family and recover the stolen money. Linc and Evelyn soon recognise one another, they had met at the hospital, he is the father of the little boy Sunny’s age from the same leukaemia treatment group Evelyn attends, Linc is remorseful. Later at the hospital Evelyn finds out someone has made a sizable anonymous donation to cover all of her treatment- It’s LINC. One year on- Evelyn is at the hospital, she now has a full head of hair, her doctor tells her she is in full remission. Waiting for her in the lobby are Trent, Sunny and Simon, she shares the great news, a deeply relieved and emotional moment for them all. They are wearing t-shirts with Travell Young’s face printed on them. The Kole family head for the peaceful march to commemorate the life of the innocent young man, Tavell and the lives of all those sadly lost during the riots. The day is one of peace and unity, a stark contrast to what went down a year before.
