Synopsis/Details
A small TRAWLER named- “THE WEE LASS” sits on fairly calm waters off the shore of a small seaside town in the north of Scotland called- BALTI. Captain GORDON CAMPBELL, his son DYLAN, best mate and deck hand FINN stand on the deck waiting for a package being lowered from a larger vessel. Back on shore the trio are in a pub called the- “FISHERMAN'S INN”, owned by local businessman JACK MAGEE and little brother known only as- OAK. Oak suffers from GIGANTISM, a behemoth of a man. Hidden in the crates under fish and ice are drug packages, Jack examines the shipment and pays Gordon for the drug run. Gordon is a trawler-man, he isn’t proud of what he has been reduced to, but catches are small and he still owes payments on the Wee Lass; he promises Dylan they will only make the runs until the boat is paid off. Later, the whole family, including Dylan’s sister Zoe are at the pub attending a ceilidh. Gordon and his wife LISA are up dancing, she tells Gordon she is tired and heads home. Lisa suffers from addiction but she has been clean for a while. However, with the new drug shipment now distributed around the estates- the temptation is too great, on her way home she stops and buys some heroin from local dealer- ROB. When Gordon returns home, he finds Lisa dead in the bathtub from a heroin overdose. Distraught/full of rage, Dylan goes after ROB, beating him into a COMA. Dylan and Finn end up in jail. Gordon begins to drink heavily, blaming himself for his wife’s death. While in jail, Dylan finds out his father is dead, it is said he died from suicide. Zoe ends up leaving town for a fresh start, there are far too many painful memories in Balti.
Some time later, Dylan is released from prison. Before leaving, he pays Finn a visit in the MED wing, Finn is dying from cancer. He gives Dylan a small key to Gordon’s tackle box, Gordon had made Finn promise to do so only once Dylan was free, Finn hopes it may hold some answers. When Dylan is released, Zoe is at the gates waiting for him. Reunited, Dylan tells Zoe he is heading back home to find out what happened to their father. Zoe is torn, she has found the love of her life, JOSH, they are about to get married. But she knows she will never truly move on until she faces her past and ends up leaving Josh alone at the alter. Josh, with his two best friends, CHRIS and LUCAS in tow, follows Zoe to Balti, he is confused and needs answers. In Balti, Dylan gives the Wee Lass a spring clean, then works up the courage to open his father’s tackle box. But when he does, the lock is broken and the box is empty. Seeking answers, Dylan tracks down Rob, he is the local dealer who has his ear to the ground and must know something. Rob swears he knows nothing about Gordon’s death, Dylan reminds him what happened last time, in case he is holding something back. Rob scurries home, frantic. His mother MAGS realises something is very wrong, she presses him for answers. He informs her Dylan is out and he must leave, he gives Mags a letter and tells her to give it to Dylan. Later, with a storm brewing, Rob is driving along the high cliffs at the top of the town, car lights appear from behind, he thinks the car is going to overtake but it rams him off the road, his car plunges off the cliffs down the scree slopes and bursts into flames. After Rob’s car is found by local Sergeant- JERRY KOOTS, Mags ends up delivering the letter to Dylan. Meanwhile, Josh is at the police station speaking to local bobby, Officer WHITE; he explains he is searching for Zoe, when Sergeant Koots returns he gives Josh Zoe’s address. At their family cottage, Zoe finds the letter. At the same time Josh and his friends arrive on the scene, Josh sees Zoe and Dylan together and assumes Zoe has been unfaithful and found someone else, heartbroken, he decides to leave. Zoe continues to read the letter, a FLASHBACK plays, showing Jack and Oak killing Gordon and staging it as a suicide. Gordon had told Jack he wanted out, Jack was afraid he would talk to the police to expunge the guilt he was carrying. With the storm now fulling raging, Dylan grabs his father’s SHOTGUN and goes after Jack and Oak. When Josh and his friends are leaving town they are stopped by Officer White who insists it isn’t safe to travel due to the storm.
Dylan breaks into Jack’s estate, he is about to shoot him when the door bell goes, It is Sergeant Koots. He tells Jack he just came from seeing Zoe, she’d shown him the letter. When he attempts to arrest Jack, Oak intervenes and kills the Sergeant. Oak heads out to the brae to get rid of the body, Dylan follows him to find out the location. Afterwards, he returns to the estate to finish Jack off, but he doesn’t find Jack alone, in his company is a strange MOUSEY looking fellow. Dylan has to abandon his plan. At the B&B where Josh is staying he accidentally bumps into the Mousey man, among the belongings he drops is a photo of Zoe and Dylan. Worried for Zoe’s safety due to the man’s demeanour Josh heads to the cottage. When he gets there he finds Zoe and Dylan have been tied up in the front room by the Mousey man, who turns out to be Jack’s- HITMAN. He manages to free Dylan, they both fight the Hitman. The Hitman gets the better of them, just as he is about to execute them, Officer White, who has found Gordon’s shotgun, shoots and kills the Hitman. As the dust settles, Zoe notices Dylan has disappeared, he has gone after Jack. They find Dylan at Jack’s estate, Dylan has a gun pointed at Jack, ready to pull the trigger. Zoe and Officer White desperately try to talk him out of it, he finally puts down the gun.
Some time later: Zoe and Josh get married, they’ve also had a son whom they named GORDON. On the same day as the wedding, inmates, including Jack, are being taken to wash-up, unfortunately for Jack he has been sent to the same NICK as Finn. A dying Finn with nothing to lose ends up killing Jack for what he did to his SKIPPER.
