Everyone is convinced he smuggled them , given his history in other missions. This forces him to switch sides to save himself. This is where he gets stuck with Lerato . He knows how to survive the wilderness, she is the map and compass in the wilderness. They wander the land together despite the mutual hatred . They are not safe until the cross into South African boarder. They take with them the little girl Aaliya who dies by being swept away by river currents . Talk about adding fuel to the fire . Their civilisation fades to nothing because of this tragedy. They each attempt to kill each other at certain points . It is because of the horrors of the wilderness that are way above the horrors of being with each other that make them discover they are the opposite sex version of each other . They each are slaves where they are . Only getting to the boarder isn’t so exciting anymore as they discover their provoked feelings of love are about to encounter loss.
