“The Beggar, or the Dead Dog” (1919), a one-act play by Bertolt Brecht.
Synopsis/Details:

Taking place in ancient China, this script consists of a dialogue (outside a castle gate) between a beggar, whose dog has recently died, and an emperor who has recently extended his rule. The beggar is blind, and therefore does not know the emperor’s real identity; the emperor can see, and therefore thinks he knows exactly with whom he is dealing. The latter is in for a surprise, and the former cannot forget his dog.

A New Yorker by birth, I grew up in Miami and was educated at the University of Florida, Tulane, and Yale. My last U.S. address was in Milford, Connecticut; I am now an expatriate residing in Scandinavia. Many of my scripts (both long and short) are adaptations of lesser-known works by well-known authors.
