Synopsis/Details
Kay, 45, is estranged from her ex-husband, Al, whom she divorced on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour. Al was in the past very verbally abusive and has done psychological damage to Kay, and her two children, Lloyd, 20-ish, and Linda, 20-ish.
Linda and Kay remember his abuse, but Lloyd seems to have forgotten, and has romantic notions of a reconciliation with Al.
Linda has to shake off the attentions of Tom, 20, who is besotted with her, but well beneath her intellectual level. Tom decides he must get smarter to impress her, so he starts reading a lot of books.
Lloyd's meeting with Al turns out to be a predictable disaster as Al abuses him verbally again.
Once Tom has become educated, he rejects Linda, and seeks another girl.
Kay tells Lloyd and Linda they must learn some life lessons to understand the meaning of maturity.
