Synopsis/Details
Ian James and Sue Danvers have been best-friends since the age of six. They work at the same office, have the same friends, and do everything together. In fact, the only thing they don't share, is a bed.
Ian goes on a blind date with Ellen Shepherd - a friend of a friend - and soon he begins to fall for her, much to the detriment of his relationship with Sue. As Ian's relationship with Ellen develops, his friendship with Sue begins to deteriorate, and soon they begin to argue about Ellen, who has fallen pregnant. Ian finds himself increasingly torn between his duty to Ellen and his new family, and his entire way of life, exacerbated by Sue's accusation that he has abandoned her for another woman. Ian begins questioning the nature of their friendship, leading Sue to confess that she is in love with him. As the arguments become more aggressive and more frequent, the tension between the old friends builds, leading to them sleeping together.
Ian confesses to Ellen that he and Sue slept together, causing her to leave him. Sue moves away, leaving Ian on his own. Months later, Ian and Ellen meet at a wedding. Ian asks her forgiveness and hints at reconciliation, but Ellen declines. Instead, she settles for a dance, and suggests that there may be hope for them in the future, but that he will have to regain her trust before she allows him back into both her life and the life of their unborn child.
