Synopsis/Details
The Spy Who Lies With Me. Synopsis: Special Agent, Danny Grant, foils an international plot high in the Austrian Alps, barely escaping with his life after a high-speed chase. On reaching his hotel he relaxes at a game of poker but loses his highly prized car to Sir Aspen, only to be taunted by his father for fantasising about being a British spy. In reality, Danny Grant is a humble sales assistant in his home town hypermarket and gets through the day imagining himself to be his favourite movie spy, Jason Trust. These fantasies are fuelled by his friend, Quentin, a gadget and software boffin working at the hypermarket to keep in touch with reality. Each day Danny sees his work colleagues as though they are the cast of a spy movie. His girlfriend, Sophie, cannot see the appeal of being a spy and favours more romantic tales. An evening at the cinema turns sower for Danny and Sophie when the two off to go to different films. Afterwards, Danny finds Sofia being accosted by three men but is ill-equipped to defend her. However, she dispatches them with her own fighting skills. Danny's daydreams force Sophie to kick him out. Danny tends his wounds by playing with Quentin's new gadgets. He realises to get Sophie back he must impress her and decides to take up martial art. At the sports centre, he is spied on by the thugs that had accosted Sophie, as he struggles to learn the new craft. Sophie is pressured by the group leader, Jacobs, to do their will or Danny would suffer. Sophie again saves Danny's honour and later at a restaurant tries to encourage him to give up his fantasies. While in the rest room Sophie is kidnapped by Russian agents. Danny searches for her but realising she has gone takes her handbag. Danny seeks help from Quentin and his girlfriend Angie to discover Sophie is a British Secret Agent. Inside Sophie's handbag, they discover she had been recording the Russian agents planning an attack from some nearby mountains on the coast. While hatching a plan to rescue Sophie, Quentin demonstrates a prototype serum that will, for a short period, give Danny the skills of Jason Trust, claiming it to be extracted from all the films and games. Danny, Quentin and Angie track down the Russian's hideout. Danny manages to penetrate the mountain headquarters to discover it is a missile silo but is knocked unconscious and brought to the mastermind behind the operation, the evil Sir Aspen from Danny's fantasies, aka his own evil father. Aspen reveals he is a Russian mole planted 30 years earlier and that he had just unmasked a CIA agent, Danny's own mother. On top of this, he informs Danny that he is a second-generation sleeper being programmed for his own mission and the British had sent in their agent to get him to defect. Danny is horrified to be told his mother and girlfriend are set for termination. Danny is taken to a medical centre to continue his programming but is rescued by Angie disguised as a doctor. The two of them search for Sophie and Mrs Grant while Sir Aspen prepares to launch the nuclear missiles to start World War 3. The two women are set free. Angie takes Mrs Grant to the surface while Danny and Sophie race to stop Aspen's plan. When they confront him Sophie risks her life for Danny. As the countdown nears the end, Danny has a shoot-out with his father and wins. Three rockets are launched and Aspen manages to set off the self-destruct mechanism as British troops mass at the entrance of the site. While Danny and Sophie rush to get out, the British evacuate those coming out of the mountain headquarters. An off-shore naval frigate intercepts the three missiles. Danny and Sophie manage to escape the mountain silos just before it self-destructs in a massive explosion. Danny is confused when Sophie continues running. She explains she wants out of the spy business and a chance to lead a normal life. She persuades Danny to join her but as they sail off in a stolen yacht, Quentin continues to track their course.
