Synopsis/Details
From the action-packed opening sequence to the final surprise ending, The Taxman is a riveting edge-of-your-seat thriller. Ted Roberts was the best forensics accountant the IRS ever had. Ask anyone. He could smell a scam a mile away and big or small, he exposed them all. But that was only until his son’s tragic accident and his mentor/best friend’s murder drove him to the bottom of a bottle. While investigating his friend’s murder, Ted uncovers a brilliant conspiracy that is funneling tens of millions of dollars out of the IRS coffers - but where is the money going? It looks as though the government has created a secret slush fund to use for covert missions and it appears as though the dirty work is being done by the mob. The government and the mob - working together? You bet. As the conspiracy becomes more and more involved, he tries desperately to overcome his drinking and gambling addictions. During his investigation, a building mysteriously blows up around him. Although shaken, he continues his dogged search for the truth. Walking home one night, he almost becomes a hood ornament for a speeding car. He manages to safely evade the runaway vehicle. Was it a drunk driver or a targeted assassination? Or is it just his mind playing tricks on him? Ted keeps following the money. The closer he gets to the truth, the more he questions himself. If he's right, the money trail leads directly to the White House. Ted enlists the help of his protege to uncover the conspiracy - but can he be trusted? As he gets closer and closer to the truth, Ted's estranged wife and daughter are kidnapped by the mob, to be used as leverage to get him to back off. Now - he's really pissed. He throws caution to the wind. He tracks down the culprits and becomes a one-man posse. He saves the day. In the end, he and his family are re-united, then transported to a beautiful resort island and given ownership of a quaint motel, courtesy of the United States government. While there, Ted bumps into his mentor who is also there courtesy of the government's Witness Protection Program. "Holy shit! I thought you were dead". All is well.
