Synopsis/Details
MORGAN (29) appears to have it all: the lifestyle, the women and a rising career as a TV weatherman. However, it soon becomes clear that his pretentious façade is a vain attempt to win his father’s respect. MR. LA FAY (70), terminally ill with cancer, believes everyone is inferior and instils in Morgan an ego-centric moral code, “Look after number one.” Dulled to the subtle advances of AMANDA (25), Morgan turns to alcohol to fill his emotional void, as he’s repeatedly belittled and disrespected, by both his father and male co-workers. A near-death experience bestows him the power to embody the weather and Morgan’s need to appease his father’s moral barometer, leads him down a troubled path. He creates freak weather incidents to advance his career, whilst remaining blind to the human and environmental cost.
During a live broadcast at a forest fire, Morgan manifests a tornado, which quickly becomes an inferno. Escaping death, live on TV, makes Morgan the No.1 trending story. However, before he can celebrate, he learns of his father’s passing and falls into disarray. Grieving, angry and alone, Morgan hits the bottle hard at a local bar. After initiating and losing a fight, he embraces his powers for revenge; he engulfs Manhattan with a deluge of destruction and, selfishly absorbed in his emotions, he strikes back at the men from the bar, pitiless towards anyone caught in his path. The storm only calms, when a child’s noble act to save a stranger, impassions Morgan’s human side.
Faced with the stark reality of his actions, Morgan attempts to reconcile with his estranged sister, Ashley (37) and is introduced to her husband and two children. He soon realises that the child who saved the stranger during the storm was his nephew. Ashley offers Morgan some moral advice, before revealing that she is pregnant. Instilled with a new belief that life is an opportunity, Morgan uses his power to subdue a hurricane and carry the rains to Africa. Feeling confident in his good deed, Morgan is horrified to learn of the destruction he inadvertently caused and seeks solace from his sister. Ashley, unaware of his powers, offers Morgan further advice and a path to redemption. Reflecting on his sister’s words, Morgan teaches the children the importance of balancing action with consistency, in order to create lasting change. Morgan organises his own life, before righting wrongs, fixing mistakes and learning to understand his place in the world, subtly using his powers to help balance the climate and change the world, one degree at a time.
