The stunning locales, blue skies, and clear waters, of Puerto Rico provide the backdrop as 12-year-old Taylor Sanchez unravels a mystery 200 years in the making. Taylor and his dad, Marco, live on a 52-foot ketch. As our story opens, we find them on a remote and dangerous island just off the coast of Equatorial New Guinea. They are looking for clues to the legendary treasure of the Pirate Mendoza. It is believed that Mendoza had shipwrecked on this island and that before he died, carved a secret map into stone…A map to a treasure he had buried years before off the coast of Puerto Rico. Taylor and his dad find the carved stones, and Marco eagerly adds the evidence to his journal…but soon they realize that not far behind them is Voorhees, an unscrupulous Archaeologist who is considered by many to be a modern-day Pirate. Taylor and his dad take their clues and run for the beach. Voorhees and a tribe of local Head-hunters give chase. And the adventure is in full swing. On the heels of their narrow escape from Voorhees, Taylor and Marco are swept up into a Cyclone that rips their boat to pieces…Marco disappears into the unforgiving sea. Weeks later almost everyone is sure Marco is dead. Only 12-year-old Taylor clings desperately to the hope that his father is still alive. Taylor goes to live with his aunt in Puerto Rico...in the same house his dad grew up in…The house that looks out on the mysterious Skull Island where Taylor’s father believed Mendoza had hidden his treasure… Soon Voorhees reappears and is determined to do whatever it takes to get a hold of Marco’s old journal and claim the treasure for himself.
