Synopsis/Details
Growing up during the Cold War, a young disabled girl grows up into womanhood and shares vignettes of her life with the audience, first through her learning how to lip-read from her mother, and her own urge to express herself through artistic means. Her interactions with family members and family friends, as well as her desire to communicate through art clashes with her father's desires for her which is to follow his footsteps into Military Intelligence.
For fans of films based on true stories and tales of espionage, "Vignettes from a Cold War Child" is a compelling trip down memory lane told through the lens of a hard-of-hearing child and woman whose quiet, perceptive perseverance will enthrall and at times shock. Told in such a way to invite the audience into a deeper understanding of the Cold War on the Canadian home front, it reveals the harrowing and frightening impact it had on certain families.
Note: This short script or proof of concept is based on a true story on the author's own life. It is a true Canadian Cold War story. All names are changed to protect the living and the deceased. There is a full feature version on this site under the same name.
