Synopsis/Details
Rural Georgia, early 1930s.There are reports of a wildcat loose in the area. The young men are planning to hunt it down, while Old Gabriel, a blind, elderly black, is afraid of being attacked by the cat—which he claims to be able to smell.
Thus does Old Gabriel stew, stir, and speculate. Will the ravenous animal break into his house and pounce on him, or will it devour only a lone cow in the pasture? The act of waiting draws Gabriel closer to his own death; indeed, despite his fears, he may greet the wildcat with open arms.
