Pest Control
A Pest is a Pest…

Some jobs just aren’t glamourous. Yet they’re needed nonetheless. Sanitation, for instance. Or plumbing. Then there’s bug extermination. Ew.

Well, it’s not like bug killers are always needed: that not-so-sexy skill only comes in handy when a home gets infested with various creepy, crawly, skittering things. Cockroaches, certainly.

Ants are unwanted pests, too.

Little old lady Edna Washburn prides herself on a pristine home. So when ants suddenly begin making surprise appearances in her kitchen, Edna finds herself downright appalled.

Luckily, a new exterminator’s in town: O’Brien Pest Control. Stuffing promotional flyers into neighborhood mailboxes, the titular O’Brien arrives at Edna’s doorstep like the bug-slaying hero he is. Thrilled at the opportunity, senior Edna pulls him right in.

Before you can say “Raid”, O’Brien sets to work. While O’Brien sprays the kitchen downstairs, Edna listens from the living room, and giggles with pal Rhonda on the phone.

EDNA
Yes, Rhonda. Ants! Can you believe it?
Henry and I have been here for nineteen years.
I don’t ever remember seeing an ant in the house.
He’s spraying downstairs in the kitchen now.
How’s that? About six foot two, pretty muscular.
Maybe 35. No, I didn’t see any tattoos. . .
Rhonda, I’m surprised at you.
(giggles)

O’BRIEN
(calling upstairs)
Mrs. Washburn?

EDNA
I’ll be right down!

We know where Edna’s going.

But as for the plot of Mike Murphy’s Pest Control… not so much!

A very easy shoot with just two characters and a single location, Pest Control is a wicked, fun little 4 page short. You think BUGS are squeam inducing? Wait’ll you and your audiences see how this one ends!
