Ellynn Mayo's first memory of writing comes from sitting in their backyard at age seven and re-writing their version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. From there, they went on to win an award in first grade for a poem about cardinals, start a student-led newspaper at their middle school as the head copy editor, start a personal blog, and place third in Mid-Continent Public Library's LitUp poetry competition. They also served as a copy editor and contributor to both their high school newspaper, the Titan Scroll, and creative writing club, which published an anthology entitled The Canary Sings. Ellynn has self-published three short works through Kindle Direct Publishing.
They currently serve kjhk.org, the University of Kansas student-led radio website, as the Web Content Director. They also work as a freelancer. They recently received a second-place prize for the William Herbert Carruth Memorial Poetry Contest from the University of Kansas' English department. Ellynn has dreams of directing their own screenplays and publishing more books in the future. They hope to normalize (and not commodify) queer representation, so that young LGBTQ+ readers like they were can grow up seeing themselves validated in contemporary media.
