I don't like Reader Request because when you press the button for Grant Asses it turns red to Revoke. It should of had a button or something else. Not making much sense at all to me.
Gregory: Once you press the green "Grant Access" button, it does turn red. This is so should you later decide to revoke that reader's access to your script--maybe after a certain period of time--all you have to do is press the red "Revoke Access" button. In other words, once you grant someone access to your script, they can keep downloading it until you press the red "Revoke Access" button.
As Lily pointed out, you can choose to bypass the read request system entirely by checking a box on the bottom of your script's edit page, which will allow all users to download your script without your permission (which is how it used to be).
Thanks both of you. I wish that it was explained because I was confused. I did Grant Access to my scripts. I hope that the Reader can read my script. Because like the old way, we automatically knew. I just want to refuse the writer who is reading my script so he won't steal my idea.
We actually didn't know. Download doesn't mean that anyone physically downloaded your script to their computer or device. I just means it was loaded or "downloaded" in their PDF reader, usually in another browser tab.
Technical crap out of the way, any scripts "downloaded" before Read Request, well, nothing you can do. A change like this doesn't happen overnight. It's been enough time for me, that I haven't had any problems. You have your Rockstar stats. So, you should know who downloaded. I use a spreadsheet to keep track of things, and just copy/paste from my stats, which I haven't needed to do much since this Read Request system happened.
Gregory: If someone downloads your script after you grant access, you will still receive an email telling you when it was downloaded. Also, the reader's name, IP address and date downloaded will be in your stats. You'll get an email each time that person downloads your script.
I once granted access to someone who then never downloaded my script. Kind of bizarre. I've also ignored requests from people with whom I'm not comfortable sharing my scripts. I love this new system! Exercise due diligence and trust your instincts. Lily uses a spreadsheet; I save all email notifications and occasionally take screenshots of my stats page.
Snapshots are good, too. Hey, whatever works. That's always my bottom line.
Before the Read Requests, I'd get fake accounts, which was annoying. I reported them to CJ, he had to do extra cleaning for the site, and oye, annoying. Now, I just don't grant access to fake accounts.
Sometimes, before Read Requests, I'd get people downloading the same scripts over and over. I do wish other members, whether a Rockstar or not, would realize everyone gets an email when a script is downloaded. When someone downloads repeatedly, that means a crapload of emails for me. It feels like harassing spam.
The Read Request system has made for a much more enjoyable experience for me. Unnecessary repeated downloads automatically eliminated. I haven't had a problem since.
It happens. There could be many reasons. Somebody thought it would be fun to click/tap buttons. The request is on a to do list. They didn't get the download instruction email yet. All kinds of reasons. This website, while have received a lot of major updates lately, it's not real time. It's not social media.
For myself, if, after granting access, no downloads/contact/anything after a month, I revoke access. That's just the amount time I find it takes. It might vary for others. And then, if there's no follow-up after a month, I deny access.
I can implement technical stuff but I can't manage people's behavior. Yeah, it's weird when someone requests to read a script, gets permission, and then doesn't go on to download but it is what it is. The current system is the best compromise for everyone so far as so many people want radically different things.
CJ, I just had a thought, if it's not too much trouble for you. How about an expiration? Many sites do that when resetting passwords. Something along the lines of, the download link will expire in (insert reasonable about of time).
I have received three request from people wanting to read my script. I Granted them Access and never gotten an email saying they download it.
Because they didn't download it. It happens all the time. If they download it, you'll get an email. If you don't get an email - they didn't download it.
PS - make sure you're SR emails are not going to your junk folder
I just got an email that someone wanted to read one of my scripts... I went to the read requests page and nothing was there. is this a technical issue, or did the person just rescind their request?
It's most likely someone I had to block this week due to making a ridiculous number of requests and peddling some sort of scheme they wanted people to sign up to.
That hasn't happened to me, and it's been working fine on my end. If there's a glitch for your account, you should notify CJ.
If you want, as a temporary solution, you can opt out of read request per the edit page for the script, at the bottom of the page.

Only writers can revoke.
I checked my read request page. Everything looks fine for me.
For you, a couple of possibilities. A delay, which happens on occasion, try reloading the page. A glitch, maybe take a screenshot and contact CJ.
It's most likely someone I had to block this week due to making a ridiculous number of requests and peddling some sort of scheme they wanted people to sign up to.
Aw, man, the shit you have to deal with, eh?
Alright, thanks to you both for the quick replies.
Cheers.
