Leon's World

A global announcement reveals that a doomsday comet is currently on a collision course with Earth. It’ll be twenty years before we know if the comet will actually hit. And that’s the big question, IF. But citizens of the private community Trajectories, who have since sealed themselves away from mainstream society after the announcement, are busy making sure Mia is well taken care of. She’s their savior. The one who will bring new life to a planet destroyed. Mia was born on the Trajectories compound and unbeknownst to her, raised to become the final piece of a self proclaimed prophet’s celestial Frankenstein. As Mia comes of age, she suddenly realizes her fate, that the people she loved as family and friends only want one thing... her head. The story opens with a comet approaching Earth as a woman gives birth to a baby girl named Mia. She is taken away by a man named Leon shortly after being born. Seven years later, Mia is a student in a rundown classroom inside a mysterious compound called Trajectories. She befriends a new student named Emma and they become close. Over the years, Mia and Emma grow up together inside Trajectories which is presented as a self-sustaining community led by Leon. When they turn 21, Leon announces that the comet will impact Earth in the next 20 years. He selects Mia, and several others who were born inside Trajectories to join him in an underground bunker called the Star Center to survive the comet's impact and rebuild civilization. Emma becomes distraught about being excluded and commits suicide. After her death, Emma's adoptive parents are exiled from Trajectories. In the aftermath, Leon takes Mia and the other chosen ones to the Star Center early before addressing the community about the impending comet impact. Underground, Mia discovers that Leon and his team have been conducting twisted experiments to fuse human and animal parts to create hybrid creatures. Leon reveals he has designated Mia as the final piece to complete his ultimate creation that will take flight after the comet's impact. Mia manages to escape but learns Leon has orchestrated the mass suicide of the community members who weren't chosen to enter the Star Center. Disillusioned, Mia emerges above ground to find Trajectories deserted and heads into the outside town where chaos reigns. After a violent encounter with a stranger, she returns to the Star Center and agrees to let Leon's team conduct the experiment to transform her into a winged hybrid creature. The story ends with Mia awakening after the experiment is completed, reborn as Leon's celestial creation.
