A story about trying to achieve focus and getting things done, starring two people who medically can’t… Until they find each other. Newly single LOLA (39) a mermaid singing for her supper, desperately wants to birth her “difficult” second novel and find a man to birth a baby. Meanwhile, JESS (37), a plus size bombshell branded “too much” is tired of being a corporate social media monkey. She wants to finish one of her many screenplay ideas, but struggles in a messy WFH bubble with her depressed and gaming obsessed boyfriend, Carl.
Jess and Lola’s worlds collide at a café where Lola has a break-up (again) and Jess gets fired (again). They go on a collective mission to focus but over time café coworking is too distracting. After seeing an ad listing, they spontaneously rent a sea view office with the added benefit of “Lift Guy” Lola’s new target for sperm extraction. In a desperate bid to make rent they agree to sublet the office at night to Neil-the-creepy-cab-driver, who needs the location for his film, for which Lola is his unwitting muse. Neil also recommends a friend, Colin, to rent a desk during the day. Blissfully unaware Neil is a porn filmmaker, they invite Colin as their first coworker and he, gasp, closes the blinds on their premium sea view. To escape they go back to the café for a coffee and decide to run a full-on coworking space. The catalyst being Lola sees Imogen (owner of rival cowork space) kissing her ex…
Alone, they were two square pegs in a round hole world… but together, they’re the odd couple with super powers. Each episode sees them try (and fail) to focus on their writing in a new way, until they grow closer together and achieve success beyond their dreams. This story was born from our missions to laugh the world into wokeness about ADHD in women, (our recent series was Edinburgh TV Festival nominated). As writers, our collective experiences being undiagnosed and swimming upstream brought us together. Meet Jen & Lorelei here. At times, Lola & Jess’ inner worlds take over as an ‘ADHD daydream’ scene (see Lola taster tape), to help the viewer feel what it’s like in a chaotic ADHD brain.
