Synopsis/Details
In the 1870s, Daisuke, a skilled Japanese swordsman driven by a dream of becoming a cowboy, journeys to the Wild West. He finds work on a struggling homestead run by Kate and her husband, Cooper. Though initially wary, when Daisuke helps Cooper with an injury, they soon bond, cementing a connection between all three. Desperate for money, Cooper takes a job guarding a mail train, only to be killed by the ruthless Jones Gang. Driven by guilt, Daisuke sets out for revenge against Kate’s wishes, who warns him of the burden of taking a life. His first target, Jimmy Gum, a vile, murdering rapist, proves a tougher fight than expected, dying without providing Daisuke the answers he seeks. When two more gang members foil Daisuke's ambush plan, Daisuke is gravely wounded and barely escapes. Half-dead, he arrives back at the homestead to be nursed by Kate. Still injured but slowly recovering, Daisuke struggles to learn to quickdraw, his failing only making him increasingly frustrated. When the previous two gang members arrive at the homestead, taking Kate hostage, Daisuke lures one into a brutal fight while Kate is forced to kill the other to save her own life. Despite her warnings, Daisuke leaves to finish his quest for “justice”. Back on the trail, he realises another attack is imminent back at his adopted home and rushes back but is too late to save a friend’s life. In a late-night pistol shoot-out in the town’s street, he wounds the gang’s second-in-command but fails to stop his escape. Kate finds an unsent letter from Daisuke to his family and urges him to return home. He refuses, so she resolves to join him in finishing the fight. Together, they storm the gang’s hideout, with Kate assisting by taking a lookout position. Kate's ingenuity saves Daisuke in a deadly cat and mouse with the second-in-command. Finally, Daisuke faces the fearsome leader, Jones himself. In a seemingly bizarre decision, he chooses his sword over a pistol. When questioned by Daisuke, Jones claims they kill because they want to, just like Daisuke. As Jones goes for both his pistols, Daisuke uses the sun reflecting off his blade to his advantage, striking the final blow. In a tragic turn, Kate is shot and Daisuke learns of her pregnancy. If she lives or dies is left to your imagination.

The Writer: Michael Rogers

Michael Rogers is a screenwriter from ye goode olde land of Blighty (the UK if you don’t speak proper English). Inspired by the existential dread that follows in the wake of a day without writing, he creates features and TV in many a genre including; horror, thriller, drama and sci-fi, all tinged with his “unique” style of (what he calls) humour. Being a misunderstood soul himself (tiny violin plays in the background), he tends to write characters that aren’t what they seem to be on the surface and likes adding something of the unexpected to the story too.
