Synopsis/Details
Broker Dealer Banker Thief is a hard-hitting novel set in the aftermath of the financial crisis and focusing on the turbulent world of bond trading in The City of London, reflected in the fortunes of two brothers. From adolescence, Harvey Fallon is resentful of the attention paid to his adopted brother Charles, known by his nickname ‘Scibby’.
This resentment intensifies as they forge careers in the same profession, both becoming city traders and prominent figures in the broker-dealer world of bond trading. Scibby, by nature a warm-hearted man, enjoys success in his business dealings due to his shrewd judgement but suffers disappointment and turbulence in married life due to two tempestuous marriages with spiteful women whose aspirations and lifestyle obsessions do not include him.
Meanwhile, his brother, the manipulative Harvey, is always on the lookout for shady but profitable deals and has, by teaming up with two City associates, Elze and Noah, devised a scheme with more risks than benefits, persuading Scibby to act as the front man in their illicit enterprise. Scibby begins to realise too late the perils their scheme involves, mainly for him, and together with his marriage woes, he finds himself struggling to stay afloat amidst a spiral of danger, jeopardy, desperation and despair. Scibby, with the help of his adoptive mother, hits back, but no one is prepared for what comes next.
